Horn

Horn player and composer, Mica Redden (they/them), earned their Bachelor of Music degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. They went on to receive their Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where they also pursued their Doctor of Music degree. Mica maintains a busy studio and freelancing career in Indianapolis. They perform frequently with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Louisville Orchestra, the Indianapolis Opera, and the Queen City Opera in Cincinnati. They have played with The Who, The Beach Boys, Weird Al Yankovich, and Mexican Pop sensation, Gloria Trev. In 2016, Mica held the position of Fourth Horn with la Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco in Guadalajara with whom they performed at the famous Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and at the International Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato. As a studio musician, Mica has recorded for an array of commercial and educational projects, including those for the Hal Leonard Corporation. Some favorite projects have been recording for Disney on Ice. 

As a composer, Mica has been commissioned by the Colorado Music Festival, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the University of Oklahoma bassoon studio among many other exciting projects. They completed their doctoral composition studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of P.Q. Phan. A native of the Virginian Appalachian Mountains, Mica draws their musical inspiration from the sounds of the Appalachian wilderness, folk music, and Americana. 

Outside of music, Mica enjoys reading, watching true crime, dining at local restaurants with their husband, and snuggling with their two cats, Chicken and Noodle.
