The Asher Fund provides financial support for quality research investigations in psychological science.

J. William Asher is a »¨¼¾´«Ã½ Alumnus and Professor Emeritus of Education and Psychological Sciences at Purdue University. He is highly committed to undergraduate research in psychology at »¨¼¾´«Ã½ and has been a strong supporter of our program for many years. Because of his generosity, the Asher Fund has provided extraordinary support for both the quality and quantity of our research projects.  Please see the reception for Dr. Asher held in 2011. Current estimates place the value of the Asher Fund at around $750,000. Most years, the Asher Committee allocates up to approximately $40,000 in funds for quality research investigations in psychological science. Some of the most recent allocations include..

• Student Funds for Presenting at National/Regional Conferences

  • A student, working with Scott Ross, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, received funding to be used for poster printing, travel and conference expenses when the student presented her research poster at the 30^th APS Conference in San Francisco, CA (May 24 – 27, 2018) - Amount granted through Asher was $1,190.00
  • A group of five students working with Susanne Biehle, Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, received funding to be used for travel and conference expenses when the students presented their research at the Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA) Conference in Chicago, IL (April 11-14, 2018)  - Amount granted through Asher was $3,810.00

• Senior Thesis Research Expenses

  • A student, working with Robert West, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, received funding to purchase survey Technology and to compensate participants.  - Amount granted through Asher was $600.00
  • Two students, working in conjunction with Susanne Biehle, Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, received funding to compensate participants for completing surveys.  - Amount granted through Asher was $500.00

• Equipment Purchases

  • On behalf of the Psychology and Neuroscience Department, Professor Michael Roberts received funding to purchase commercial eye tracking equipment with accompanying presentation, data collection, and data analysis software.   - Amount granted through Asher was $25,660.00
  • Two students, working with Professor Robert West, received funding to purchase 3 Asia cut EEG caps and to compensate participants who take part in the surveys and EEG studies.  - Amount granted through Asher was $1,525.00

• Faculty Research Expenses

  • Scott Ross, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, received funding to be used for partial travel and conference expenses when he gave two presentations at the annual meeting of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society Conference in Barcelona Spain (July 3-7, 2018) - Amount granted through Asher was $1,740.44
  • Rebecca Achtman, Assistant Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, received funding to be used for travel and lodging expenses from late May to mid-August while she worked on a collaborative project with Dr. Bedny of Johns Hopkins University. - Amount granted through Asher was $5,000.00

	Dr. Terri Bonebright, Professor of Psychology, listened as students talked with Dr. Asher.
	Psychology professors Dr. Matt Hertenstein, Dr. Terri Bonebright, and Dr. Pam Propsom along with several others in attendance enjoyed speakers' comments during the reception.
	Senior psychology major Rachel German shared some of her experiences at the 23rd annual Association of Psychological Science Convention last summer.  The 2011 convention was held in Washington, DC in May.  Rachel, along with other students, received financial support from the J. William and Katherine C. Asher Endowed Research Fund to help cover expenses related to the conference.
