398CA: AdvStudio:Ceramics: Peeler Cup Collective

Students in this class will work with the Peeler Cup Collective, a »¨¼¾´«Ã½ project that supports the creation of limited edition, handmade cups around a chosen theme. Techniques covered include slip casting methods and ceramic surface design. Assignments will challenge students to develop their creative practice by exploring complex issues, identifying relevant questions, refining concepts and techniques, and applying critical thinking to individual and group work. Students will present research on a technique or artist and generate a written artist statement that outlines their conceptual and technical approach to their artmaking. For one assignment, students in this class will collaborate with students in HIST 375: Women's Social & Political Movements to create several original handmade cups inspired by historical U.S. women's activism.
An interest in creativity, community, and collaboration is encouraged.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Ceramics and any 200-level studio art course or consent of the instructor.
